Uncle Touchy – Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Violence
Released: March 13th, 2012
Label: No List Records
When music starts heading into the realm of “noise” rock, things can get interesting. There’s a lot of ways to go with it. Some bands go almost pure noise. Others head into a mix of noise metal with melody. Some, such as Uncle Touchy, head in a noise-punk direction. Prepare your ears friends.
I think there is definitely something to be said for having your mind in the right space to listen to some music. Uncle Touchy does require you to be in a certain mind set, in my opinion. Their album “Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Violence” is raw, aggressive, fast and pretty damn good. The album title alone should give you some insight into what to expect. Most of the songs are full of loud, screaming vocals. This is mixed with chugging, dirty guitars and speedy, thumping drum beats. A few songs, such as “Soft Skin” have an aggressive punk feel to them. “Sensual yet Forbidden” is the odd man out. It trades in the scary, yelling vocals for a bit more melody and normal volume. It’s still aggressive but has much more melody and rhythm. It even has almost a Dead Kennedy’s style to it.
The truth is, noise metal is very hit-and-miss for me (and I’m picky about it). The screamo bands who deafen you with nothing but yelling and a noise wall of guitar are not interesting. Luckily there are noise bands out there like Uncle Touchy who put some actual music to the noise. If you dig bands like The Jesus Lizard, Melvins, etc you’ll probably dig Uncle Touchy.
Did I mention you can pick up “Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Violence” for ultra cheap? As in “name your price cheap”. Listen below and see what you think.
